Ellenville Farmers’ Market on Market Street
Welcomes Local Farmers, Families and Friends
Special Cooking Program for 2010 ~ Open Flyer
“Get ready for another season of fresh vegetables and specialty foods when the Ellenville Farmers’ Market on Market Street re-opens Sunday, June 2oth” said Mike Siegel, Market Director. “This is the fourth year for the farmers’ market, and we’re really excited by its growth and development.
Our popular vendors from last year are returning, and we are happy to be welcoming some great new vendors, too.” Look for some old friends at the Burd’s Farm booths, along with Cohen’s Bakery and Panzerella’s Specialty Foods.
Vendors include Rondout Valley Organics, a cooperative of Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) based farms in the Rondout Valley, and Gaby’s, featuring homemade guacamole to order and fruit smoothies, too. We’ll also have monthly visits by Master Gardeners from Cornell Cooperative Extension. The gazebo built in the famous Mohonk style will serve as a band shell for musical performances, and there will be special guest exhibitors throughout the summer, too.
This year, Operation Frontline will be holding free cooking classes for kids ages 8-12, beginning July 11th through August 15th, 11am -1pm. To sign up for this six week class series in easy, low cost, healthy meals, please call Asha at 845-532-4905. Operation Frontline is a program of Share Our Strength, funded in part by ConAgra Foods and brought to Ellenville Farmers’ Market by the Queen’s Galley in Kingston.
Adding to the vast richness of this unique Market is the AYANA Community Garden, thanks to Family of Ellenville, in cooperation with other community organizations and volunteers, where visitors can enjoy watching the vegetables planted and tended by local residents grow. Topping it all off are the beautiful planters made by the Shawangunk Garden Club. More than a place to buy great locally grown foods and products, the Ellenville Farmers’ Market on Market offers visitors and residents a rich harvest of community spirit.
Open rain or shine, the Ellenville Farmers’ Market is located at the corner of Market and Center Streets in downtown Ellenville, NY, one block East of Rte 209 every Sunday from 10am to 2pm, June 20 through October 10, with a special Olde Time Harvest Festival on Sunday October 10th – also from 10am to 2pm.
The Ellenville Farmer’s Market proudly participates in the federally sponsored Farmer’s Market Nutrition Program (FNP) as well as the WIC – EBT program.
So come on down and fill your heart while you pack your basket with our valley’s finest and freshest picks of the week each Sunday from the end of June to October. For more information please call Michael R. Siegel, Market Director at 845-524-4508.
Ellenville's Farmers Market is held out-of-doors on Market Street, in public a space where people can sell produce and products to the public.
The Farmers Market produce is renowned for being locally grown and very fresh. Farmers pick produce at the peak of flavor, preserve the nutritional content of fresh produce, and since locally-grown produce does not travel as far to get to your table, the difference in mileage saves fossil fuels.
The Farmers Market often feature produce grown naturally or organically, meats that are raised humanely on pasture, handmade farmstead cheeses, eggs and poultry from free-range fowl, as well as heirloom produce and heritage breeds of meat and fowl.
The Farmers Market is a great place for kids to have fun, learn new things and meet new friends.
The Farmers Market advocates believe the markets help farmers stay in business as well as preserve natural resources. Wholesale prices farmers get for their produce are very low, often near the cost of production. It can be shown that the preservation of farmland is important for the health of the environment and water supply.

Rock 'n Roll Red 2008
This vintage's amped up blend of 44% Sangiovese, 34% Petite Sirah, 22% Cabernet Franc references Italy's Super Tuscans with notes of tea, spice and electric prunes.
The label features our friends Tish and Snooky... sisters, singers and creators of Manic Panic.
Eaten by Bears 2008
63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Petite Sirah, 18% Cabernet Franc.
Cereghino Smith reinterprets a classic Left Bank Bordeaux blend in the 2008 Eaten by Bears. As Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits tannic structure with notes of black cherry, the Petite Sirah brings depth and lushness to the wine. The Cabernet Franc finishes with bright acidity bringing brightness and balance. These Bears dance.
